“Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible - the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family” Virginia Satir, The Satir Model: Family Therapy and Beyond
Most of us grow up in a family and ideally parents provide securing, loving and supportive relationships with limits for their children in order for them to feel safe, loved and able to grow and develop to the best of their abilities. However, raising a family in the 21st century is not always easy and issues arise that previous generations never had to contend with.
Families can run into difficulties for a multitude of reasons and sometimes an outside therapist can help you to understand what is not working and identify ways to improve your family's functioning.
I work with families whose children are 12+ and the work generally begins with a family meeting. Thereafter sessions may be with smaller subgroups of the family depending upon the assessment of what the difficulties are. Other times, the work is just around a particular parent-child relationship.
If your children are under 12 and you are struggling, I am happy to work with you the parent/s as supporting your skills has a knock-on effect for everyone in the family.
